Prolotherapy is another alternative to treating your chronic pain. The process involves injecting a solution (typically a dextrose solution) into the area of a ligament, or around the weakened, injured, or damaged area. This is intended to cause inflammation into the area, which increases blood flow. The body responds to this by stimulating the area to have internal repair using the natural healing power of injured tissues and joints. Usually after 4-6 treatments, patients see the results.
Indications for prolotherapy may include: Chronic pain in the neck or back, neck strain, pain from whiplash injury, fibromyalgia, costochondritis and other joint injuries.
The limited blood supply to and poor healing properties of ligaments, cartilage and tendons may make treatment necessary after injury.
